PTA*: Katy Perry x Complex Magazine

Now that all of the needless hype and buzz surrounding Kim Kardashian has (for the most part) subsided, thankfully the media has left us to pursue bigger and better things... Such as Katy Perry's very full, erm, assets that I shamelessly admire. I've learned that women like her give guys hope in this world. After all, she's sexy, pretty talented, has hot friends (Rihanna, hello??) for your boys and totally loves Jesus... Which means you can take her home to meet your mom.

But who cares about all that when you've got these pictures to stare at for the time being??? Go to Complex.com NOW!

MTTM Summer '09 collection - "Lost Summer"

Aside from the fact that Married To The MOB showcases some most official hotties in most all of their shoots, they also have a knack for being consistently good in women's design. With many streetwear labels being somewhat apart of a "boys club" according to founder of the brand Leah McSweeny, MTTM has been pivotal in producing a product with similar styling conventions that is catered to women in it entirety which is why, despite the fact that 95% of the content on this blog is catered for men, I'll fucks with this any day of the week.

According to McSweeny, “Lost Summer is meant to epitomize that summer every girl has where she is bordering the transition between being a girl and womanhood. The summer where she has her first kiss, and romance, and broken bone, and every inevitable experimentation that makes the metamorphosis so unforgettable. The summer that will never be erased from her memory.”

On a side note, the model featured is McSweeny's little sis Sarah... You know, Leah, you should totally put in the word for me.

Oh well, I guess we're just gonna have to deal with these pictures for now...

XLarge x Casio G-Shock

In a typical week, you will rarely see me posting two G-Shock collaborations within a posting cycle of one another. However, between the fact that much of men's streetwear is on hiatus due to all of the impending drops and that this is actually a pretty good looking piece, I think I can break trends every once in a while.

With yesterday's watch being a DW-5600 Atmos x Casio G-Shock with a polka dot face, I am really liking the patterned face modification that could very well be a rising trend with upcoming watch collaborations. XLarge takes a page out of the Atmos book by coming up with their own model, equally as attractive with a rep stripe face to provide a nice accent to the black design of the watch. Like the Atmos x Casio G-Shock, this will also be available in June, but on the 13th at select retailers.

Crooks & Castles Fall '09 New Era Preview

Looking ahead a few months into the cold and depressing part of 2009, Crooks & Castles has revealed two of their designs in a preview of their New Era fitted collection for the Fall. The first model, while featuring the quintessential Chain Link "C" in a Cavaliers-inspired colorway, there is also a nice Raiders-inspired black and gray hat with "Crooks" script across the front... Per usual, Crooks & Castles delivers tenfold in their fitted hats department. It will be a treat to take a look at more designs in the coming months.

Carioca Studio Presents: Golden Pig and Bitches

That's a golden shower if I ever saw one...

No, I'm not so devoid of tact that I just "made up" this title for this post... It just turns out that Carioca Studio, a Romanian photo production house specialized in advertising photography has named their most recent, highly sexed production with this title. Straightforward? Pretty much. Offensive? Possibly. Sexual? I like to think so. Brilliant? Absolutely.

Regardless of the connotations associated with the name of this series of images, you can't say that the images themselves aren't good. Carioca studio makes an interesting commentary on the connection between sex and money, making the two subjects speak to each other in a highly-sexed, borderline-disturbing product.

Check out the rest of the images after the jump...

Cheap Thrills: From Bling to Bust

Understandably, this economy sucks. Like, really sucks. Why? because once you venture past the fact that the average run-of-the-mill Joe has had to cut some serious corners in order to stay financially afloat, you still have to wrap your head around the broke-as-a-joke goodness that is celebrities getting financially effed in the a and not being able to do things that they do best... Which is, mostly nothing, buying things, throwing cash at TV screens and bragging about wealth.

Case in point that we have reached possibly the greatest depression is the most recent information surfacing about rappers gallivanting about your local idiot boxes and neighborhood video blogs with jewelry about as fake as their cocaine raps.

According to The Wall Street Journal, rap artists' dwindling wealth and budgets can no longer sustain obnoxious over-sized pendants and blinged-out chains... In fact, most are hurting so bad that they are opting for smaller pieces made out of... pause... Cubic Zirconia.

No need to act surprised. On one note, this isn't the first time we have heard of this with 50 Cent calling out Cocaine Kingpin/Correctional Officer/Rapper, Rick Ross for wearing fake jewelry. This is possibly an even bigger shot to his pride than, say, his completely fabricated past which has been the cornerstone for his mostly-average raps. On another note, while it may seem mind boggling to find your favorite rapper in financial straights these days, lets be honest here: The bigger mindfuck is how they managed to binge on Cristal and diamond-studded bullshit in a recession like it just "no biggie."

Thank god though, that there haven't been any foreclosures on these guys' homes... yet. But look at the issue with me as something that is slightly bigger than what can be percieved at the naked eye. If all else fails, I.E. a rapper unanimously sucks at the fundamentals of good emceeing, his cornerstone is his credibility. Which means, even if he is homeless, so long as he is showing up to the club on 24s, making it rain on them hoes (even if its all on credit) and running around with over ten pounds of jewelry on his neck that could easily quell all of his financial problems should he sell it, everything he talks about is at least kinda true.

But all in all, albeit the absolute lack of credibility which seems to be running rampant throughout urban music these days in a disturbingly alright manner, what the fuck am I supposed to do when I hear this? Feel bad for these guys? Is their biggest problem really trying to one up a dude like Rick Ross who so narcissistically got a (debateably) diamond pendant modelled after his own face? Hell no. Regardless of whatever arguments emcees may make to justify their opulent lifestyles, that doesn't make me feel bad for the guy who went broke after he blew his advance check on a Phantom, a 52 Maybach, some chains the size of small children and a platinum bathtub filled with Dom Perrignon and escorts. So yes, of course a dude like Jacob of Jacob & Co. (who I think is in prison actually for mob-related activities) is gonna have a steep-ass decline in sales and of course sales in grillz are gonna fall off by 60 percent. People should know at this point that the gravy train's gotta stop somewhere, and when it does, you better have some real-estate and a gang of stock options.

All in all, what does it mean? Oh, well according to New York Magazine, "there's no longer money in hip-hop." Let that one set in for a little bit...

Chuch,

Atmos x Casio - White/Pink Polka Dot G-Shock

Naturally the turn of the summer has cued an influx of new products from limited release sneakers to a string of clothing collections that have not let up in quality or creativity because of the economic conditions. However, not too much emphasis has been placed on accessories such as watches. While G-Shock collaborations are starting up, it is important to showcase some of the best pieces so far because, lets be honest: everybody has a G-Shock collaboration coming up...

But don't sleep on the Atmos x Casio G-Shock which features a simple white strap with purple accent lettering and a pink polka dotted face which also is back lit with an "A" graphic. Currently, the watch is not available but will be soon in June. (via High Snobiety)

Stubbs & Wootton - Gator Straw Nat

Now that summer is officially here with the conclusion of Memorial Day, options such as seersucker suits, white shoes and other seasonal wear are officially fair game. Depending on where you lived, the rules of fashion were appropriately broken considering the hot weather, but assuming that these days, its universally scolding hot just about anywhere you go, I think it is safe to say that Summer is no longer a stones throw away.

With the change in shoes taking place in many environments, alternatives to other shoes such as slippers become present. In a previous post I have showcased Stubbs & Wootton footwear as slippers with character and for the reason that this is not your daddy's footwear. As their velvet models feature attractive embroidery for every personality type, their summer straw and canvas alternatives ought not be left out of the bunch.

Each slipper by Stubbs & Wootton is made out of fine materials such as vachetta leather and go great with plenty of outfits aside from your daddy's smoking jacket. The alligator print on a straw upper is only one of the many alternatives that the brand provides for the season. Check out the rest of them at Stubbs & Wootton.

Diamond Supply Co. x Rick Ross

Over what will soon be a calendar year, the infamous Rick Ross correctional officer photographs (which he later admitted to), would have dropped. Unwittingly, this has prompted a helluva learning experience about mainstream rap music as well as the fan base that supports it. One of the things I have learned most notably has been no matter how credible, how much fronting, how much flat out lying an emcee does, the consensus, surprisingly manages to not really give a fuck so long as his raps are marginal and his beats are fire.

It should be noted though that the scuttlebutt this year is that Ross' most recent debut, Deeper Than Rap, is actually quite good.

But the artistic efficacy of his raps are irrelevant to the gobs of free press he gives brands like Diamond Supply Co. by donning their threads in recent videos and interviews. Thus it should come to hardly any surprise that the two would come up with a collaborative piece at some point or another.

The Diamond Supply Co. x Rick Ross collaboration tee is distinctly Miami with soft pastel tones with palm trees and a Maybach emblem thrown in which actually makes the diamond surrounding it surprisingly subtle.

Currently there is no release information on this tee shirt... (via The Evil Collector)

Cheap Thrills: American Apparel Goes for the Win with Assless Tights.

In the fashion world, of all the ridiculous, generally overrated, or borderline-horrendous styles out there I refuse to strike down my notion that tights/spandex are unequivocally one of the biggest sartorial cop-outs for young women across the globe.

Fuck yeah, I said it. Once one gets over the fact that they are over-worn and over-clutter too many outfits and wardrobes, there are still the seemingly-insurmountable odds stacked against you which suggest that you won't be able to convince the flyest of your girlfriends that, well, these aren't really pants. Granted, aside from the awkward moments surrounding you making obvious moves to try and not look camel toe of the cutie you're trying to holler at, there is still the issue that you might see panty lines when she turns around which brings any lingering attraction to a grinding halt.

What I am saying is that the spandex tights have always been a minefield of sorts for both parties when worn... And considering how overworn they are by most any woman you know under 30, most any party you are trying to frequent has a minefield hiding somewhere.

Luckily for us, American Apparel is delivering the W for those of us guys that already have issues with the oh so many problems surrounding the increasinglly-annoying spandex tights. After getting past the fact that Sasha Grey has decided to get her pants-assless porny pose on, there is still the fact that these over-sexed chaps will possibly curb the trend of women gallivanting about your local hoods with nothing but spandex on and a cameltoe in all of its awkward glory. And hell, if a girl decides to walk around with just these on with nothing covering up her exposed romp, than I won't lie... That's a win too.

Fendi Wants to Jump on the Bike Bandwagon

Like other luxury labels in the past that are undeniably lifestyle brands in and of themselves, Fendi has showed some notable interest in jumping on the bandwagon of miscellaneous items that aren't exactly clothes.

Like Gucci, Chanel, Gap, and most recently, Hermes, Fendi has opted to up the ante on making their interpretation of a luxury bike and apparently, it involves fur. Hell, I'm not complaining or anything. After all, gas is expensive, not all of us can roll around in our Rollies without angsty bystanders in unemployment lines throwing rocks at our windows (That was sarcasm in case you didn't smell it).

Hence, a fur-trimmed bike should do the trick... Or at least encourage people to make passes at your life, full knowing that there is at least no barrier protecting you this time around.

The NY Times Is In The Mood For Summer

As much as I would like to think that this is totally in commemoration for summer, I would be totally lying if I told you that it was. But who cares right? Because the New York Times has just pulled together a stylish editorial spread shot by Camilla Akrans that is a testament to stylish swimsuits and svelte supermodels in the exotic Greek Island of Patmos.

Play Cloths Isn't Playing Around - Summer '09 Collection

Looking at Play Cloths as a litmus test for other, lesser-known, designers in the streetwear industry, I have wondered what precisely defines the success of a given label. After all, Play Cloths in just a few seasons has become a recognizable name in the street fashion circuit and one that is increasing in clout. Sure, having backing by Va's The Clipse, makes up for leaps and bounds of late-night work to help build buzz and find financing, but also having attractive designs is another half of the equation that cannot go ignored.

With a small legion of attractive graphic tees, cut-and-sew pieces and a highly anticipated string of accessories, Play Cloths isn't playing any games this season when it comes to fashion. It will be interesting to see what other looks arise from the summer collection in the coming months and perhaps in a couple of seasons, at this rate, Play Cloths is looking to make some power plays in the street fashion industry. The collection is available effective today at Standard and other retail locations. (via FRESHNESS)
