So I know I didn't drop any knowledge on your asses last week, and I'm sorry for that... Well actually, not really. I had a bunch of stuff to do last week that was work related and well, school is a first priority and y'all are getting spoiled anyway. I did my fair amount of shit between last week(end) and this week and since I didn't drop my two cents on the situation, who knows, this shit might be a little bit longer than ususal... But that's okay right? I suppose I owe you one this time but you better pay me back in packs of cigarettes down the road... I smoke Dunhill.Music
So this past Tuesday I went to see The Cool Kids in concert and despite the fairly marginal attendance, the show was pretty good. While there, I learned something that night:you don't need to be in a crowded ass room to have fun, or to measure the dopeness of a venue. Sometimes all you need is your closest friends and thats it aside from the music being good... Everything else will fall into place. My boy rob went to an Ill Bill concert last sunday and he loved it even though there were only 20 people in the venue. I suppose that is when everything sort of fell into place with me.
On another note, when I think about the music I have been listening to it has mostly been Electronica, mix and mashes, and remixes of remixes. After listening to the new Jay Z x Coldplay album, I came to the conclusion that a remix is a pretty beautiful thing. No, not on the weak ass premise that you can now turn a slow song into a club banger (actually, that's a pretty shallow way of looking at remixes I've realized), but because you can remix a song and give it a whole other meaning and interpretation... Write that shit down. As of late I have been listening to Viva La Hova (all of it), Deceptacon (DFA Remix), We Are Your Friends (Disco Villains Remix), Alive 2007 and Oi Oi Oi (all of it) by Boys Noize. All of it is pretty good and it has held me over for hte late nights I have stayed up these past few weeks writing papers and smoking cigs in twos.
Finally, Termanology, Method Man and Redman are coming to chapel hill soon and I am gonna be set up to do a face to face with Term himself. I am really looking forward to this and if I'm on my best behavior, maybe I can swing Meth and Red's PR info too... Look out for that interview...Fashion
The fashion sense at The Cool Kids' concert was pretty mixed. You had some good, some bad, but mostly douche. I could tell a lot of kids put ten tons of thought into their Shemagh + Wayfarer combination and thought they were gonna look unique. Yeah... Whatever. There were also a lot of kids that looked like they tripped and fell head first into an ocean of highlighter fluid. I bet they wanted to shock and awe or maybe just stand out... No, all of those bright colors just made me want to pass out... Thank god it was dark or else I would have had a fucking seizure or something.
I reached an epiphany this week... For the fall, plaid flannel is essentially the new tweed. Let's think about it for a second. Tweed has always been the quintessential fabric of the fall and it has an air of sophistication to it. We usually see it associated with luxury products such as topcoats and suits. However, with a bad economy, tweed isn't out of style so much as it seems almost impractical to a certain degree. The average individual is financially struggling and can identify more with the blue collar bracket moreso than ever before. Therefore, Plaid flannel is the new tweed. Why? Because it is rugged, workmans and has a spartan feel to it, yet it still maintains from a practical perspective. Wear it with a plain tee, a strong fitted, some solid kicks and watch others weep.Culture
So three weeks after a prominent hipster in the community predicted the world's impending apocalypse, the world still happens to be here... And that is a good thing. Although I have noticed a very interesting correlation between baby boomers and millenials. Baby boomers = the hippie generation, and millenials = the hipster generation. Despite the fact that hipster is essentially hippie 2.0, I find it very interesting that over 40 years later we are in another shitty ass war, looking fabulously frumpy and twirling L's... More or less though, us millenials are carbon copies of our parents. The only difference is that we have fitted hats, iPhones, and Facebook.Politics
So Election Day is right around the corner, which means that it will be more or less, the end of my grotesquely partisan posts in favor of Barack Obama. I hope though that he actually becomes the first black president as opposed to the first black hype. After all, for our sake, we will need to save face if we lose after Young Jeezy came out with the song "Black President". I hope that nigga didn't jinx us. Lets not celebrate until the fat lady sings. I imagine, considering the importance of this event, should it happen and all... The party that will follow will be one for the ages. So for those of you that aren't political, vote and keep your fingers crossed for at least that much...Women
Bag On 'M: So I have come to a certain realization after practical real world experience. When undergoing a series of interactions with women, just stop wasting your time after, say, the second try. Don't get mad, don't get even, just get going to the next person. It is important to not lead on that you are dependent on her company and that you could really go either which way with or without her. By her flaking on you, it is insulting, so when she tries to initiate something with you, walk away and tell her why, she'll wanna work double time for you from there on out.
Bag On 'M: On another note, sometimes having the same sex hit on you will give you a whole new perspective on how to interact well with women. I have learned that persistence is not the key to a woman's heart, but rather, give, take, and constructing an aloof persona to make her curious. While I am certainly not gay, I've realized that the individual hitting on me (while a nice dude) started to get on my nerves more than started to make me think he was a cool dude because he was always there. Dont send a jillion messages to your love interest, don't call too much, give her some goddamn space. You'll be glad you did and while it seems like it wont work, everything starts to fall into place when you get random text messages from girls you've only met once. Constructing curiousity is key, but throwing a bunch of random questions at your target wears it down and makes it aggrivated. Trust me, I know...
Bag On 'M: After holding a good conversation with these two blonde Honey's the other night, my good friend Blake asked how to go about a good opener. While there are many dynamics to an opener, the best advice I can give is something relevant to the situation. Comment on a detail in her outfit, perhaps something going on in the party, something she is doing, but whatever you do, dont just say "Hi, I'm (insert your simple ass here)!". While it is easy, its too easy, and even though the two of you are at the same party, you are still totally irrelevant to her situation and she probably would have been just fine without knowing that. So tonight until infinity, take this with you wherever you go... Open with a relevant opener such as "what are you reading?" if you're in a book store for instance... Trust me, its a helluva catalyst.

Going To The Cool Kids
So on Tuesday I went to a concert hosted by The Cool Kids... Yes, the Cool Kids. For those of you that are unfamiliar, unaware, or simply living in a fucking cave, that is a pretty cool deal. The group showed up at my school and kicked some serious ass. The front of the room was packed around as Mikey and Chuck owned the stage with powerful presence, clever lyricism and a serious fun factor that is not always characteristic of smaller groups. The turn out was okay... Perhaps a couple hundred in a room designed for a thousand however I expected this due to the
lack of name recognition that they have. Even though this sounds like a shitty time to some, I thought it was a good one, cooling out and vibing with a couple hundred of your closest friends and uniting under one roof. The crowd wasn't particularly diverse in that it consisted predominantly of blipsters and hipster douchebags but the turnout of striaght honeys was damn high so I didn't really care and just when I thought it couldn't get any better I looked down and saw the most official sneaker game ever on women's feet.
I look up, the music is loud and there are hands moving up and down together with the rhythm of every song. Some random white dude in an Amongst Friends seersucker hat was vibing next to me... His simple ass seems to have forgotten that it is fall and his one moment of 59 fifty new era certification is shattered by the lone fact that he is committing a horrendous sartorial nightmare. Perhaps I'll see him at a party in the spring wearing a 10 Deep tweed cap looking as if he is mentally handicapped in the sartorial department. But to give him some room to work with, he is a guy and lets be honest for a second, most of the times we don't know what the fuck we're doing and we just roll with it. Props to him for matching though, but on some real shit, girls have no excuse. Elsewhere in the crowd I saw a chick ins some tight jeans, a bomber jacket, and white heels... White heels? Enough said. Even guys know not to wear white shoes after labor day... Tisk tisk, hang yourself...
These ARE Chuck's Jordans
The style there was pretty interesting to say the least... There were lots of shemaghs in there... and I expected that, which is why I brought an extra vial of smelling salts in case I passed out from all of the douchebaggery that radiates from any blipster with a shemagh around his or her neck... Another note on style: my boy mal rolled up to the party looking fresh to death in a top coat, an oxford, a tie, some jeans and a boston fitted... It was pretty dope. The motherfucker just slid in there, cool as a fan and reached his big palms over my shoulder to shake my hand... Damn near scared the shit outta me how quiet he was... Or maybe it was just that the room was noisy as hell. Mikey and Chuck were dressed pretty modestly in comparison to shit I've seen them wear in the past. Nope, no chains, no disgusting hoodies or fitteds, they didn't look like they tripped and fell in highlighter, they just looked like two black guys which seemed to be an interesting theme for the night. Mikey had on a red hoodie while Chuck had on a varsity jacket with an earflapped hunting hat (that was pretty sick), and some Cazals (yeah, those were too). Naturally, they rocked Jordans (nothing less than the best boys)...
But despite the sets they ran, the show was disappointingly short. They concluded with some new shit that I've never heard of, and the lights came on. The loud music stopped, and the room was filled with chatter and light. The little bit of magic that the crowd held onto was now gone, the bound-for-greatness Cool Kids would soon make their exuent and go somewhere, first dinner, then home or to another city where they would do it all over again. The side room near the stage was filled to the rafters, obnoxious fat white chicks were pushing me, overdressed black girls were squeezing into every little corner, Fatti is cheezing with Chuck and Mikey after the show was over, lights were flashing and I stood in the same place waiting for it all to calm down. Twenty to thirty minutes after the show had ended, finally, chuck and mikey were signing their last autographs and getting ready to leave. I decided to wait so I could get a picture with Chuck and get some contact information on the band before they walked out of the student union and onto the pages of Rolling Stone, Blender, and Fader... Some uber obnoxious, afrocentric, Erykah Badu looking bitch with a Nikon SLR was talking about how the green revolution was going to start with black people from the bottom up. Chuck was just staring at her ass and nodding. I think it was because she was fine as hell and I don't blame him... her little friend kept on saying "yeah" every other sentence and I finally butt in and asked Chuck if I could have the group's PR contact info... He supplied it, and I left with a massive grin on his face like a kid who got exactly what he wanted for Christmas. Perhaps this could open some serious doors for swank, maybe not... But at the end of my day, I felt like I hustled, bit the bullet and asked for what I wanted. I got it and therefore it paid off... Hell, I cant complain...
I left and hung out with Juliana, Hana and Emily in the main part of the union and talked with them for a bit. I saw Mia... A serious honey... and a non-pretentious indie chick... That exists?? Jules' phone rings and she gets a call from Andrew (that is another story) and he tells her that The Cool Kids are leaving... We run back to where we were and we caught up with Mikey and Chuck. Julianna wanted to have a picture especially with Mikey because well, she sweats his nuts... and that's okay. He made a face in the picture with his cookies and orange juice, and then they left. I said good bye to Juliana, Hana and Emily for the night, threw up some deuces for the cool kids, and walked a couple of paces behind them... They brought no equipment and no Bodyguards. Just Chuck, Mikey with his cookies and orange juice, the DJ with a pizzabox that had a cracked lid, and the manager... They walked down the stairs, got in a van and drove off into forever. Perhaps, one day, I could catch up with them down the road.

Crooks & Castles Lookbook
This is perhaps one of the best lookbooks I have seen in a while. Crooks opted to construct their lookbook in storyboard format, and not only deliver a reasonably interesting tale, but also a great artistic representation of their clothes that can stand on their own merit. Very recently I showed you a preview of the new line and here we get to see even more of the holiday line. So far we have seen some more varsity jackets that are looking very nice as well as some luggage pieces that comfortably take after some design parameters that we see with some of Gucci's pieces. So far everything is looking good, but according to the look book, this isn't all Crooks has to offer us for the holidays. Stay tuned but in the meanwhile check out the lookbook here.

In the spirit of the holiday...
If you think this is fucked up, its because it is fucked up... I wanted one of these in the third grade, all of the kids on the block would have been jealous...

Junk in a box??? Or a dickcheese pizza?

I would like to meet the fucked up ass parents that would have their baby wearing a costume that makes it look like it got impaled with an erect penis.(yes, I know its "The Alien", but it looks like a dick with teeth)

Gotta love the daily dosage of T&A...

Yeaaah... Uhm... Uh... Yeah... Word. *A big grin with tongue in cheek*

Wassup 2008
This is probably the best political ad of the year. As opposed to showing yet another political attack ad with black and white pictures, grave music and a monotonous, slightly condescending, female voice attacking John McCain, this took a much less conventional approach. Eight years later, the Wassup guys (you know, from the superbowl ads?) get together on the phone and each individual is being effected by different issues such as the environmental crisis, weak economy and the war in iraq. However, what makes the ad special is that while it is yes, funny, it shows that these same guys can still come together and possibly unite under a common cause. Even though this isn't an overt barack obama support ad. We can sort of discern that it kind of is... All in all, I know I have done a lot of partisan posts in the past, however, at the end of the day, take heed to the message at the film's conclusion and vote. It doesn't matter who, just vote, and make sure you vote in your favor... I voted last week so don't take this as me being a hypocritical bastard.
